Ph.D. Program

 Duration

The Duration of the course a minimum of 2 year to 4 years.

 Doctoral Coursework

The objective of the programme is to prepare students for careers in teaching and research and also for positions outside academics, which require advanced research and analytical capabilities. The programme is run on the basis of new UGC guidelines wherein the six month course work is mandatory. The core part of the Doctoral Program begins with coursework and literature review seminars in two common research areas:

Module Description ?

1. Setting a positive mindset by breaking the Mindblocks
2. Developing the entrepreneurial mindset.
3. Building blocks of a business.
4. Customer Pain points & Solutions.
5. Market Segmentation & Target market selection
6. International Immersion and Global Best Practices

he Modules are delivered over two consecutive years. Each class session ends with a take home assignment. Individual reading under the guidance of your supervisor forms a substantial part of the literature review which supports your field of research. This literature review forms the basis from which each student will draw their respective research proposals. These Research proposals are then presented and defended after the completion of all the coursework. The research proposal is the critical step towards awarding the Ph.D. Degree and the research committee will decide on the capabilities of each student to further progress their studies within the Doctoral Program. Students are also required to meet with their Research Supervisor every two weeks or more frequently as required to review their progress. These could be personal meetings or Skype meetings.

 Assessment
A comprehensive examination will follow the literature review study that the Ph.D. scholar undertakes. The comprehensive examination will pertain to the Ph.D. scholar’s proposed area of research. The student must pass the comprehensive examination in order to progress to the next phase of the Ph.D. program.

The comprehensive examination will be followed by a seminar presentation based on the comprehensive examination.

Field Research, Data Analysis, Dissertation Write-up
Once the student has been given permission to proceed with the field research, the student proceeds to gather and analyze all the data and information from all the relevant sources indicated in the Research proposal. These would cover a gamut of individual / electronic surveys, personal interviews, literature and journal reviews, or any company-specific information from multiple sources in all formats.

The end objective of the dissertation research is for the student to produce a comprehensive book length manuscript (ideally consisting of a combination of Indian and international scientific journal publications – a thesis not exceeding 100,000 words). This research must represent and an original contribution by the student focusing on one of the numerous aspects in field of management. Originality is demonstrated through the following:

  • The Discovery of new facets
  • The Discovery of a new conceptual framework
  • Significant new knowledge in the Research Area
  • The creative application of existing analytical concepts
  • New Tools to address contemporary issues in industry

The student must ensure that the original contribution produced through the research dissertation can withstand the independent critical scrutiny of experts in that field. The student is required to defend the dissertation in front of a dissertation (examination) committee, consisting of both faculty as well as external experts in the field of research. The student must satisfy the examiners in a viva voce examination.
